Lusiana Limono is an Indonesian artist and textile crafter whose practice centres on environmental issues, handmade traditions and craft as a form of knowledge-making. She is the creative director of KAIT Handmade Studio and co-founder of MaPaQuilts and Kriya Kontemporer Indonesia, with long-standing involvement in women-led art and craft initiatives. Her work examines cloth, domestic objects and labour as ways of connecting people to place, wellbeing and cultural roots. Lusiana previously visited Nikoi Island as an artist and now returns as a Researcher-in-Residence.

During her research residency, Lusiana will focus on creatively upcycling domestic waste found on Nikoi Island, building on insights gained from her earlier visit. Working closely with the island’s waste management team, she will transform materials such as used cooking oil, paper and fabric into functional and aesthetic objects including soaps, paper goods and craft materials. Where possible, she will also collaborate with the kids club team to explore paper clay and bio-ceramic processes, supporting future creative activities on the island.

Ubah Rumah is an artist residency on Nikoi Island that supports research-led creative practice rooted in place, community and environmental awareness, encouraging meaningful cultural exchange. For guests, this means opportunities to engage with artists through talks, workshops and open studios, offering a deeper connection to the island beyond a typical stay.
